Breath, energy, and the internal foundation of Hung Ga Kung Fu.

Not everyone comes to Syracuse Kung Fu looking to fight. Some come looking to heal. To find more energy, more clarity, more presence. To address chronic pain or stress that conventional approaches haven't touched. For all of these people, the internal dimension of Hung Ga, Qigong, internal development, and what Sifu Bey teaches through the Sagala Institute as bioenergetics, is exactly what they're looking for.

And many of them end up staying for the kung fu too. But that's up to you.

What Is Qigong?

Qigong (pronounced "chee-gong") is the Chinese practice of cultivating and circulating the body's vital energy, qi, through movement, breath, and focused intention. It has been practiced for thousands of years as a system of health maintenance, healing, and internal development.

In the context of Hung Ga Kung Fu, Qigong is not a separate wellness add-on. It is woven into the system itself. The most advanced forms in Hung Ga are essentially complete Qigong systems within a martial arts form, developing internal power, breath control, and energetic awareness simultaneously with martial technique.

What students experience in practice: reduced stress, improved sleep, greater physical vitality, relief from chronic muscular tension, and a measurable sense of increased energy and mental clarity. One of Sifu Bey's students healed a chronic shoulder injury through Qigong meditation within three months of training, after years of the problem persisting through conventional treatment.

The Sagala Institute, Bioenergetics and Internal Alchemy

Sifu Bey's work extends beyond conventional martial arts instruction into what he calls the Macrocosmic dimension of the practice. Through the Sagala Institute, he teaches internal alchemy, bioenergetics, and what he refers to as the Afro-Atlantean Continuum, an esoteric framework connecting the internal arts to broader cosmological and ancestral traditions.

This work is for those who sense that the martial arts have always been about more than combat, that the real transmission is about transformation. Sifu Bey is one of the rare instructors in the United States who teaches this dimension of the tradition authentically, without dilution.
